The revised Iranian dress code is an attempt to stop "a western cultural invasion." Tight clothing for woman and western-style haircuts for men are among previous things banned by the government. "This happens every year... and then it ends, the crackdown ends, and then the head scarves go back further, the bling comes out," Los Angeles Times Bureau Chief Borzou Daragahi explained to The World. There's actually no social stigma among young people who are arrested or detained because of a law like this. In fact, if you don't disobey the morality police at some point, Daraghi says "no girl will want to date you."
