The United States has the largest prison population in the world. Some say that flogging would be more humane for some lawbreakers than imprisonment.

Rather than locking up every drug offender and non-violent criminal, Peter Moskos thinks the American criminal justice system should consider bringing back the practice of flogging. Beating prisoners then setting them free, instead of sending them to jail for years, could mete out justice without as much societal cost. He talks with The Takeaway.
