Simply getting to the victims of the tornadoes is difficult in Joplin, Missouri, because of the downed power lines and trees. "We don't often have tornadoes strike through the heart of a downtown," Brian Stetler of the New York Times reports, "but that's what happened here." He also outlines how the small town community is coming together to help the disaster victims.
