The history of an Amazon city by way of one of its most famous landmarks: an opera house.
So how do you get a rain forest full of trees to an opera house full of Engelbert Humperdinck? One produce: rubber. Alex Gallefent talks to John Hemming, author of "Tree of Rivers: The Story of the Amazon" about how the demand for rubber in the latter half of the 19th century made Manaus a major port for the rubber trade.
