You gotta have faith: Limp Bizkit front man is so enamored with Russia, he wants to become a citizen

Gerard Depardeiu, Steven Seagal, Mickey Rourke — and now Limp Bizkit front man Fred Durst, all have something in common: Russia.

In an interview Tuesday with Russian radio station Rock FM, Durst said that he wants to become a Russian citizen. But, apparently, he needs some help.

“I wouldn’t mind getting a Russian passport,” Durst said according to Russian media. “If you have communication with the relevant authorities, which could assist with obtaining it — share.”

Durst says he travels to Moscow whenever he can, and has a deep connection to the culture there. During the same show, he criticized the way the media portrays the country. His comments were a smash hit with Russians, who lit up social media after they were aired.

The musician’s love for Russia is nothing new. Two years ago, he hosted a show at the same Moscow radio station and talked about being interested in buying a house there.

Limp Bizkit will travel through Russia for their month-long Money Sucks Tour, which kicks off on October 25.

“The tour will be a historical event,” Ed Ratnikov, a promoter for the tour, told PollStar. “The tour will be an historical event. This is the biggest tour of an international band in Russia — ever.”

With this announcement, Durst adds his name to a strange list of celebrities who are looking to move to Russia. The Russian government broadcasts these types of big-name relationships, seemingly to "disprove" those who say Russia is isolated from the rest of the international community because of its role in the Ukraine crisis.

For instance, legendary boxer Roy Jones Jr. applied for a Russian passport late last month. Also in August, Joe Lynn Turner, the former vocalist for Deep Purple and Rainbow, spoke out in defense of Vladimir Putin's annexation of Crimea. In 2013, French actor Gerard Depardieu made news when he renounced his French citizenship and moved to Russia to avoid a 75 percent tax on the wealthy in France. Actors Steven Seagal and Mickey Rourke are also known for publicly praising Putin.

Tuesday, Durst uploaded a video to Instagram featuring a not-at-all-surprising surprise guest.
