Politico says Kenya is Obama’s ‘most dangerous trip yet.’ Everyone else says, what?

GlobalPost

POLITICO made waves Friday with a piece entitled, "Obama's most dangerous trip yet." Afghanistan? Iraq? It's got to be an active war zone, right?

Nope. Obama's "most dangerous trip yet," according to journalist Edward-Isaac Dovere, is Kenya. In Afghanistan, the president has "US troops on the ground and hardened military bases to shield him." Nairobi, on the other hand, is a "bustling, crowded city with an active terrorist group."

Hm. Don't forget that "he may catch Ebola or be eaten by a lion," as one netizen was quick to say.

Kenyans and correspondents based in Kenya wasted no time setting the record straight on social media. Call it the cringe heard 'round the world.

Here are some Twitter responses to the POLITICO article, collated by GlobalPost's very own Erin Conway-Smith:

Pretty sure Obama wouldn't say this about Afghanistan:

Interesting to note in the POLITICO piece is that the final paragraph undermines the rest of the article:

“He’s going to a dangerous part of the world, but frankly, it’s not that dangerous,” said John Campbell, a former ambassador to Nigeria who’s now an Africa expert at the Council on Foreign Relations. “He’s got the whole security apparatus with him.”

So, "Obama's most dangerous trip yet?" In short, no one thinks that.
