A giant penis-shaped flower is drawing huge crowds in France

How long would you wait in line to see a giant flower that looks like a penis and smells like death?

Some people in Nantes, France are willing to wait a pretty long time, it turns out.

At Le Jardin des Plantes botanical garden, people are lining up by the hundreds to check out the blooming Amorphophallus titanum, also known as "Titan's penis" or titan arum. It's also called the "corpse flower," because its odor, as Wikipedia so elegantly puts it, "is reminiscent of the smell of a decomposing mammal."

"Titan's penis," which is endemic to western Sumatra, blooms once every 10 years, and the garden in Nantes only acquired theirs in 2012, so people are understandably — I guess? — excited about its inaugural bloom.

If you're sold, you can get in this line.

It's more beautiful than you could have imagined. Get close. Breathe in the carrion musk.

If you can't make it out to France, you can certainly follow along from afar.

You can always search "Titan's penis" on Twitter. (This is, admittedly, a risky search but it comes with high rewards.)

And there's a livestream at USTREAM. You should be warned, Titan's penis has lost some of its vitality. But that's totally normal. It happens to all flowers.
