Egyptians went to the polls amid tight security on Tuesday to vote on a new constitution that could pave the way for fresh elections.
The two-day referendum has been held up by the interim military-backed government as the first step to restoring an elected government since the overthrow of Islamist President Mohamed Morsi last July.
There were reports of violence even before polling stations around the country opened. A handmade bomb exploded outside a courthouse in Cairo, but no one was injured. Clashes between police and Morsi supporters have left several people dead.
