Special Senate Elections in New Jersey and Massachusetts

The Takeaway

The recent death of longtime New Jersey Senator Frank Lautenberg and former Senator John Kerry’s move to Secretary of State left two major vacancies in the U.S. Senate. Both New Jersey and Massachusetts are looking to fill those seats with special elections in the next few months.
Last night Takeaway partner WGBH hosted the final debate between the Massachusetts candidates, Republican contender Gabriel Gomez and Democratic Congressman, Edward Markey. Longtime Boston news anchor and Boston University journalism professor  R.D. Sahl  moderated the debate, and he explores the issues for Massachusetts voters, who will go to the polls next Tuesday.
Sarah Gonzalez, northern New Jersey enterprise reporter for Takeaway co-producer WNYC and New Jersey Public Radio, discusses the Senate candidates in New Jersey, where Newark Mayor Cory Booker is the early Democratic front-runner for the late Senator Lautenberg’s seat. R.D. Sahl fills us in on the situation in Massachusetts.
