Remembering Sudan’s Musical Icon Mohammed Wardi

The World

Mohammed Wardi, Sudan’s musical icon, died Saturday at the age of 80.

Wardi sang not only songs of love, but also of politics.

His leaft-leaning political views often got him into trouble with the Sudanese government.

He was buried Sunday in a ceremony attended by tens of thousands of Sudanese including President Omar al-Bashir.
