President unveils offshore drilling plan

President Obama unveiled plans to expand oil and natural gas drilling off the coasts of the Atlantic, Gulf of Mexico and north coast of Alaska, yesterday. If implemented, the move is expected to decrease the country’s dependency on foreign fuels, please oil and gas companies and Republicans, but anger those on the left and environmental groups.

Lisa Margonelli is the director of the energy policy initiative at the New America Foundation and she talks about how this announcement could affect our energy needs. And Frances Coleman, who is the editorial page editor for the Mobile Press Register, shares what it’s like on Dauphin Island, Alabama, where offshore rigs drilling for gas can be seen from the beach.
