Kenyan village celebrates Obama victory

It was close to down when the people in the village heard Obama won the election. They began jumping up and screaming. People sang religious songs and celebrated for hours. Some people told me they were celebrating that one of their own had been elected president of the most powerful country on earth. Most of the residents of Kogelo are subsistent farmers. Poverty is high here. But many people here say they’re already beginning to see the effects of his presidency, as the government has upgraded roads near the village and electricity may soon come to the village.
