Mexican actress and singer Ximena Sarinana is just 22, but she’s already a big hit in Mexico. Now she’s bringing her talents to the United States.

Sarinana made her US debut in a small downtown art gallery in New York City recently. She sang a bolero.

Ximena Sarinana plays before a bigger audience tonight in New York, the Latin Alternative Music Conference.

She’ll perform songs from her debut album, Mediocre.

Mediocre doesn’t come out in the US market until next week.

In the meantime, we found a video-clip of her on the web that highlights her unique way of interpreting music.

It shows her singing a song you’ve probably heard before.

Mullins: You did a great job on that. And you look so at home with it.

Sarinana: Yeah, I know. It was very strange because I had never heard the song before. I had the teleprompter write down the lyrics and that’s why I appear in the tv show with these really big glasses.

The CD is called Mediocre. It comes out next week.

From the Nan and Bill Harris studios at WGBH, I’m Lisa Mullins.
