Though many consider them to be merely a nuisance, heat waves are among the deadliest natural disasters in the U.S. So why don’t we treat heat waves with more concern? Eric Klinenberg, a sociology professor at New York University and the author of “Heat Wave: A Social Autopsy of Disaster in Chicago” and the forthcoming “Going Solo: The Extraordinary Rise and Surprising Appeal of Living Alone,” talks about why Americans don’t treat heatwaves more seriously.
