Forty-five Senate Republicans signed a letter in May vowing to block any nominee unless Congress was given more oversight of the bureau. Zwillich also spent time on Capitol hill talking to lawmakers about GOP frontrunner Newt Gingrich. Meanwhile, as Newt Gingrich has emerged as the Republican presidential front runner, many of his former foot soldiers in Congress are not lining up behind the former speaker of the House. Zwillich has been talking to Republicans on the Hill about why Gingrich is not locking up the endorsements of his old colleagues.
