Katie Couric to be the ‘face’ of Yahoo news

It’s official: Katie Couric is joining the Yahoo news team.

The 56-year-old veteran news anchor and talk-show host will become the “face” of Yahoo News from next year, Yahoo Chief Executive Marissa Mayer announced Monday.

Couric, who has spent more than two decades working for US television networks NBC, CBS and ABC, will report on breaking news events and interview international figures in her new role as “global anchor.”

"Katie's depth of experience, her intellectual curiosity, and her charisma make her the perfect choice to anchor Yahoo News and the whole Yahoo Network. Her unmatched energy, savvy, and versatility enables her to connect with audiences across the globe," Mayer said.

"News is a definitive daily habit for our users – and Katie will work with our talented editorial team to pioneer a new chapter of digital journalism."

Couric is the latest well-known journalist to be snapped up by Mayer as the Yahoo boss attempts to create content that will attract more eyeballs to the company’s websites. Other big names including The New York Times journalists Megan Liberman, David Pogue and Matt Bai.

But Couric hasn't cut ties with television – yet. She will continue to host her syndicated daytime talk show “Katie” on ABC even after she joins Yahoo. There’s been no word yet on whether the show will air for a third season.
