What Veterans Make of a Possible US Intervention in Syria

The World

We recently sent out a question to our veteran community about their thoughts on Syria and got quite a few replies.

Anchor Marco Werman speaks to Iraq war veteran Marc Fisher about his thoughts on possible intervention in Syria.

Here are some of the answers:

“I believe we should stand for what’s right and going against Syria is the right thing to do. If you have the biggest stick, you have a responsibility to defend. The weak and undependable”. -Awkwarda Little

“Absolutely not. This country has decided that war is just a game to be played with victims far from their back yard. We came back from conflicts and the treatment we receive as veterans from or government is deplorable. Let’s fix or own house first”. -Anonymous

“No, we are already spread thin with cutbacks. Russia is still looking for ways to oppose us and make us look bad to rest of the world. Also we know there’s a problem when France is the only ones that support us”. -Anonymous

“We’ve been involved with Syria for quite some time now. Half of the fighters in Iraq were Syrian. Just mercs”. -Sum It

“My experience tells me that I am not in a position to make that decision. I have neither the proper information or desire to make a judgement on the “right” thing to do. That is why I vote for senators and congressmen who I believe will make the best choice for me in local, national, and foreign affairs. They in turn have the highest ranking military officers from every branch to give them detailed analysis of possible military action. I think together they will make a decision and will have to live with the consequences. Either way, asking a bunch of “veterans” because they have some intimate knowledge of military affairs is like asking a prisoner to explain the justice system. Many have something to say, but most have no clue what they are talking about. Just to be clear, I’m in the latter group”. -Fantasticclark
