Police arrest suspect in deadly Venice Beach boardwalk crash (VIDEO)

A 38-year-old man was arrested Sunday in connection with Saturday's deadly-hit-and-run at the Venice Beach boardwalk in Southern California that also left 11 people injured.

Nathan Campbell was booked on suspicion of murder and was being held on $1 million bail, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Videos show the dark-colored sedan plowing into the crowded boardwalk on Saturday night, killing 32-year-old Italian Alice Gruppioni, the Times wrote.

Gruppioni was said to be on her honeymoon, according to KABC-TV.

Witnesses claimed the driver appeared to be very much in control of his vehicle, and was apparently intentionally trying to hit people at the popular tourist site. 

"The tires started screeching," said witness Landon Blackburn to KABC-TV. "…I saw him, and he was looking for blood. That guy, his intention was to kill people."

“This guy had an intent to create mayhem and massacre a lot of people,” said witness Dave Blackburn to CBS Local Los Angeles. 

"It's tragic the fact that somebody, whether accidental or intentional, would come on the boardwalk, where hundreds, thousands of people come here to enjoy the beach," said LAPD Lt Andy Neiman to KABC-TV. 

In a similar 2003 incident, an 86-year-old driver accidentally plowed through the popular Santa Monica Farmers Market, killing nine people and injuring over 54 others, according to CNN.
