Paula Deen fired from Food Network after racial slur, fans outraged (VIDEO)

Fans are reacting angrily to news that the Food Network has dropped Paula Deen's cooking show.

The television channel announced it would not be renewing the celebrity chef's contract just days after Deen admitted she used racial slurs.

During a recent deposition for a $1.2 million lawsuit, Deen admitted she used the "N" word but denied telling racist jokes.

The Food Network announcement came just an hour after Deen posted a videotaped apology asking for forgiveness for her past behavior.

In the statement released Friday afternoon the 66-year-old said, "I want to apologize to everybody for the wrong that I've done. I want to learn and grow from this."

"Inappropriate, hurtful language it totally, totally unacceptable," she continued. "Please forgive me for the mistakes that I've made."

“I was shocked. I thought she’d get a fair trial,” Marilynne Wilson, a longtime viewer and nurse in Florida, told The Washington Post on Saturday. “I think the Food Network jumped the gun.”

Deen has gained a steady, loyal following since joining the network in 2002.

On Saturday, others took to Facebook with angry messages threatening to stop watching the channel.
