Egypt: Police arrest 3 men allegedly planning suicide attack on foreign embassy

Egyptian police have arrested three men who they say were planning to carry out suicide attacks against a foreign embassy and other targets in Cairo and Alexandria.

Interior Minister Mohammed Ibrahim didn’t identify the embassy, but said the attack was in the final stages of planning when the men were detained.

"The Interior Ministry was able to direct a qualitative blow to a terrorist cell that was planning suicide operations against vital, important and foreign facilities in the country," Ibrahim told reporters Saturday.

Ibrahim said the men were caught with 22 pounds of ammonium nitrate and a computer with instructions on how to make a bomb.

They were allegedly members of an Al Qaeda-linked cell and had travelled to Pakistan and Iran for training.

A lawyer representing the men said his clients denied the accusations.
