Deal site LivingSocial hacked, 50m user accounts affected
Daily deals website LivingSocial announced that its website has been hacked with 50 million user accounts compromised.
If you have a living social account, you better get online and change your password.
The daily deals website announced Friday that it had been the victim of a cyber attack that compromised the personal information of up to 50 million customers.
"We recently experienced a cyber attack on our computer systems that resulted in unauthorized access to some customer data from our servers," the company told its employees in an email.
"We are actively working with law enforcement to investigate this issue."
The Washington DC-based company said customer's names, email addresses, encrypted passwords and even and personal information like dates of birth may have been compromised by the hack.
The database that stores customer banking and credit-card information was not affected.
In a banner on its homepage, LivingSocial asked customers to change their passwords but said that it had not received "any abnormal reports of accounts with unauthorized charges or activity."
The LivingSocial hack comes three days after the Associated Press Twitter feed was the victim of a cyber attack that caused the stock market to temporarily crash.
Hackers with the Syrian Electronic Army sent out a tweet on AP's feed reading, "Breaking: Two Explosions in the White House and Barack Obama is injured."
The market recovered moments later.
