Liverpool's Luis Suarez gets 10-game ban for biting

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has been suspended for ten games for a charge of violent conduct in a game over the weekend.

While playing Chelsea soccer club on Sunday, Suarez appeared to bite the oppositions Branislav Ivanovic on the upper arm.

The UK's Football Association (FA) said in a statement

"A three-person independent regulatory commission today upheld the FA's claim that a suspension of three matches was clearly insufficient and the player will serve a further seven first-team matches in addition to the standard three. The suspension begins with immediate effect."

After the game Suarez apologized via a statement. "I apologize to my manager and everyone at Liverpool for letting them down," he said. He also tweeted

This is not the first time Suarez has had a run in with football's regulatory agency. The Uruguay striker received an eight-game ban and a $63,000 fine in 2011 for racial slurs direct at Manchester United's Patrice Evra.

This is also not the first time Suarez has bitten the opposition. While playing for the Dutch team Ajax, he was banned for seven games for biting Otman Bakkal's shoulder in November 2010.

"I saw it and it was unbelievable," Bakkal told the Sun. "It's something you can never imagine happening on a pitch. It happened once already. At first I thought maybe it was an accident but, apparently, he loses it sometimes. I don't know what to say."
