Chechen Community in US is in Shock and Disbelief

The World

When people around the US woke to hear the news that the suspects in the Boston bombings case were ethnic Chechens, many were scratching their heads.

Almut Rochowanski is co-founder and coordinator for the Chechyna Advocacy Network based in New York.

She’s been in touch with many of her Chechen friends who are in “shock, disbelief and measure of denial. Sort of an attempt to be able to distance these two young men from their own community.”
