Season over for Kobe Bryant after torn Achilles

LOS ANGELES — Laker's star Kobe Bryant will be sitting on the sidelines for the remainder of the season after rupturing his Achilles tendon on Friday during a game against the Golden State Warriors.

Team trainer Gary Vitti said Bryant would be out for 6 to 9 months after undergoing surgery Saturday afternoon to repair the tendon in his left leg.

This season has not been a picture of health for the Lakers, which Vitti acknowledged after Lakers practice Saturday.

"When something like this happens, everybody wants to know why and there's not always a reason why. If you look at our season, it's been a nightmare," Vitti told ESPN.

"We had a player come in with a surgery, which was Dwight Howard. Then we had Steve Nash break his leg. Then we had Steve Blake have an abdominal surgery. Then we had Jordan Hill with a hip surgery. Then we had Metta (World Peace) with a knee surgery. We also had Dwight with a (torn) labrum in his shoulder. Antawn Jamison will have surgery after the season is over on his wrist. So, when you try to look at the whys, it's bad luck."

Bryant fell to the floor with just 3:08 remaining in the fourth quarter after scoring 32 points. The star player got back out onto the court after a timeout and scored two free throw attempts to end the night with 34 points. 

After the game, Bryant told reporters he knew what had happened after he felt a pop.

"I was just hoping it wasn't what I knew it was," Bryant said. "Just trying to walk it off, hoping that the sensation would come back, but no such luck."

On Saturday, Bryant took to Facebook to vent his frustration over the injury.

"This is such BS! All the training and sacrifice just flew out the window with one step that I've done millions of times! The frustration is unbearable. The anger is rage. Why the hell did this happen ?!? Makes no damn sense. Now I'm supposed to come back from this and be the same player Or better at 35?!? How in the world am I supposed to do that??" Bryant wrote.

The Lakers have two games left in the regular season, one against the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday and the Houston Rockets on Wednesday.
