Man charged in $200,000 cheese heist

An Illinois man was charged with stealing 21 tons of Muenster from a Wisconsin cheese company, totaling about $200,000.

ABC News reported 34-year-old Veniamin Balik was arrested at a New Jersey Turnpike rest area where he allegedly attempted to sell the 1,135 cases of cheese.

”Can’t recall the theft of Muenster cheese,” New Jersey State Police Sergeant Adam Grossman told ABC.

Surprisingly, this is not the only recent dairy theft. Last year, Canadian police busted a cheese-smuggling ring.

Three men, including a former NRPS constable, were charged with smuggling more than $204,000 worth of cheese into southern Ontario, as GlobalPost reported.
