2 earthquakes shake southern Mexico, no injuries reported

Two moderate earthquakes struck southern Mexico on Tuesday morning, a day after a 6.2-magnitude temblor shook neighboring Guatemala.

The first quake measuring a magnitude-5.5 hit at 7:04 a.m. Pacific Time about 11 miles west of Pinotepa Nacional on the Pacific Coast, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

A second earthquake measuring 5.1 struck eight minutes later in the same location.

The Associated Press reported the force of the earthquakes caused buildings to sway and quake alarms to sound in Mexico City, which is located nearly 230 miles from the epicenter, but there were no reports of damage or injuries. 

Monday afternoon’s earthquake in Guatemala struck at about 4:00 p.m., but there were no reports of damage or injuries there either.
