Egypt: Gaddafi cousin Ahmed Qaddaf al-Dam arrested in Cairo

A cousin of slain Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi has been arrested in an upscale neighborhood of Cairo, Agence France-Presse reported Tuesday.

Ahmed Qaddaf al-Dam, a former intelligence official for Gaddafi, was wanted over his role in Libya’s civil war in 2011, the Associated Press reported.

The BBC reported Qaddaf al-Dam was Tripoli's former special envoy to Cairo. He returned to Egypt “shortly after” the uprising against Gaddafi.

Egyptian security forces detained Qaddaf al-Dam at his home in Zamalek after a siege lasting several hours.

According to the AFP, the official MENA news agency reported Qaddaf al-Dam would be handed over to Libyan authorities. The BBC said the charges against him are unknown.

Qaddaf al-Dam told AFP he would “file a complaint” with Egyptian and Libyan authorities.
