Researchers at Northwestern University and the University of Illinois said they have invented a flexible, stretchable battery.
Scientists have created a flexible, stretchable battery that may change the look and use of electronics.
Researchers at Northwestern University and the University of Illinois said the lithium-ion battery could even be used within the human body to monitor things like heart activity.
“An important trend in electronics involves the development of materials, mechanical designs and manufacturing strategies that enable the use of unconventional substrates, such as polymer films, metal foils, paper sheets or rubber slabs," the authors, Yonggang Huang and John A. Rogers wrote, according to Science Recorder.
"The last possibility is particularly challenging because the systems must accommodate not only bending but also stretching."

CBS News said that the battery, laid out on a silicone sheet, can stretch up to three times its original length.
It has a similar voltage as a normal battery and can last without a recharge for about nine hours.
The other amazing thing about the battery, reported UPI, is that it can be recharged wirelessly.
The findings were published the journal Nature Communications.
