Boy Scouts petition to overturn gay ban delivered (VIDEO)

Gay Boy Scouts and and leaders delivered a petition Monday to the organization's headquarters urging an end to its ban on homosexuals.
More than 1.4 million people signed the petition that was dropped off in several boxes in Irving, Texas, The Associated Press reported.

“We are all invested in the future of Scouting, but its appeal to American families is becoming increasingly difficult to maintain in the shadow of such an extreme stance," said Will Oliver, a 20-year-old gay Eagle Scout.
The delivery comes as Boy Scouts board members meet in Irving this week to consider an end to the ban.

The group said last week it may remove the national restriction on gays and leave the decision up to local chapters, although gay rights activists have said that would not be enough, Reuters reported.
On Sunday, President Barack Obama told CBS he supports lifting the ban.
But Texas Gov. Rick Perry, an Eagle Scout, has spoken out against allowing gays and former Sen. Rick Santorum wrote on Monday that the group "may not survive" if the ban is lifted, CNN reported.
The 103-year-old organization had more than 2.6 million youth members and more than 1 million adults members as of the end of 2012, according to Reuters.
