Karl Lagerfeld lesbian brides show support for gay marriage in France

Karl Lagerfeld showed his support for the legalization of gay marriage in France by sending two models in bridal gowns down the runway Tuesday.
The models and Lagerfeld's 4-year-old godson took the final bow at the German designer's haute couture show in Paris, The Associated Press reported.

Lagerfeld voiced his opinions on the issue in an interview after the show with Reuters.
"I do not understand why people who live together cannot have the same security as those bourgeois who are married," he said. "Two women getting married, I find that natural, and having two mothers is a good thing."
The move comes amid mass protests in Paris last week over plans to legalize same-sex marriage and allow gay couples to adopt children in France.

It also comes less than 24 hours after President Barack Obama called for equal rights for gays in his inaugural address in Washington, DC.
"Our journey is not complete until our gay brothers and sisters are treated like anyone else under the law – for if we are truly created equal, then surely the love we commit to one another must be equal as well," Obama said before a crowd of nearly 1 million Americans.
Lagerfeld did add that he was "less keen" on giving gay couples adoption rights.
In 2010, he made headlines for speaking out against both issues in an interview with Vice magazine.
"For me it’s difficult to imagine — one of the papas at work and the other at home with the baby. How would that be for the baby? I don’t know," he told Vice.
