Colorado Boulder college students arrested over marijuana brownies
Two students gave the pot brownies to their unsuspecting professor and classmates during “Bring Food Day” Friday.
Two University of Colorado Boulder college students have been arrested on assault charges after allegedly giving marijuana-laced brownies to an unsuspecting professor and classmates during “bring food day” Friday.
ABC News reported three people, including a female professor, were treated in hospital after suffering dizziness and fears they were losing consciousness.
According to a statement from the campus police, the home-made brownies affected eight people overall.
“An investigation revealed that the three hospitalized victims — and five other classmates — were suffering from the effects of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the active ingredient in marijuana,” University of Colorado Boulder Police said.
It said two students, Thomas Ricardo Cunningham, 21, and Mary Elizabeth Essa, 19, allegedly baked the marijuana-laced brownies for the class and then served them to their unsuspecting class members.
The Daily Mail reported the pair have been arrested on assault charges and with inducing consumption of controlled substances by fraudulent means.
"Putting marijuana into a food product and providing it to someone without their knowledge…is something we take very seriously," said police spokesman, Ryan Huff.
