Miami airport bus crash kills 2, injures 2 dozen (VIDEO)

Two people are dead and more than two dozen injured after a bus crashed into an overpass at Miami International Airport today.

One man died instantly, another died in hospital and 30 other passengers required medical treatment, the Miami Herald reported.

“It’s clear that the driver was not familiar with the airport,” tour guide Hernan Garcia told the Herald. “There are designated routes for these type of buses and it is prohibited to speed in this area.”

The bus is owned by a private tour company, NBC Miami reported.

Three other people remain in critical condition, and police told NBC that the driver – who wasn’t hurt – said he was unfamiliar with the airport.

Officials said that while the bus is taller than average, it’s not a double-decker bus, NBC News said.

Reuters reported that clearance in that area of the airport is 8 feet, 6 inches while the bus was 9-feet tall.

The passengers sit higher than the driver, airport spokesman Marc Henderson told Reuters.

The Herald said Miami Bus Service Corporation owns the bus in question.

Owner Mayling Hernandez refused comment when contacted by the newspaper.

“I’m too busy dealing with this to talk at the moment,” Hernandez said, the Herald reported. “I don’t have time to talk about this at the time.”
