Gulf oil rig explosion: Coast Guard searches for 2 missing workers

GlobalPost

On Saturday, the Coast Guard continued its search for two missing workers after an oil rig exploded and caught fire in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Louisiana, one day earlier.

The Associated Press reported on Friday a fire on an oil platform in the Gulf of Mexico badly injured at least four workers and left another two missing. It left a cloud of black smoke in its wake.

The Coast Guard said in a press statement that it was conducting a search with two helicopters crews by air and an 87-foot cutter by sea, ABC News wrote.

A spokeswoman for the oil platform told AP the injured were in stable but critical condition.

As GlobalPost reported, twenty-two workers and eighty barrels of petroleum product were on the rig at the time of the explosion, said the New Orleans Times-Picayune.
