An Israeli military offensive continues for a third day in Gaza, where as many as 23 are reported to have died, while rocket fire into Israel has killed three.

In spite of efforts by regional actors, including Egypt's prime minister and Tunisia's foreign minister, to intervene, hopes of any ceasefire crumbled early Friday morning.
