The second woman involved in the David Petraeus scandal has been identified as Jill Kelley from Tampa, Florida.

Kelley, 37, was the woman who allegedly received harassing emails from Paula Broadwell, former mistress and biographer of Petraeus, who resigned as head of the CIA on Friday after an FBI investigation uncovered his extramarital affair.

The Associated Press described Kelley as a “local concerned citizen who volunteers to help the military,” but it seems Broadwell may have viewed her as a possible rival for the retired general's affections.

Kelley notified the FBI about the e-mails, which they traced to Broadwell’s inbox. There FBI investigators discovered intimate e-mails indicating Petraeus and Broadwell were having an affair.

Their relationship ended four months ago, US Army Col. Steve Boylan told ABC News.

ABC News reported Kelley and her husband, Scott, were longtime friends of Petraeus and his wife, Holly.

The couples met when Petraeus was the head of the military’s Central Command in Tampa before he served in Afghanistan and then as director of the CIA, The New York Times reported.

But a former associate of Petraeus told the AP that Petraeus and Kelley were not having an affair.

In a statement released Sunday and cited by ABC News, the Kelleys said: "We and our family have been friends with Gen. Petraeus and his family for over five years. We respect his and his family's privacy and want the same for us and our three children."
