Judy Garland’s ‘Wizard of Oz’ dress fetches $480,000

The blue gingham dress Judy Garland wore as Dorothy in "The Wizard of Oz" fetched $480,000 at an auction in Beverly Hills, California.

The two-day event at Julien’s Auctions Beverly Hills Gallery drew bids coming in by phone from around the world, and also included the dress worn by Julie Andrews in "The Sound of Music" and Steve McQueen's racing jacket, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The price for Dorothy's farm girl frock was in line with expectations, Julien's Auctions told BBC News.

The buyer was not identified.

A similar dress worn during tests for the classic 1939 film fetched $910,000 in 2011, mainly because fewer versions of it has been made, Reuters reported.

A purple skirt worn by Marilyn Monroe in "River of No Return" went for $50,000 as did McQueen's racing jacket, The Associated Press reported.

Pieces of Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding cake sold for $7,500 while Prince Charles and Princess Diana's cake sold for $1,375.
