Lebanon Not Happy with Showtime’s ‘Homeland’ Drama

The World

The Showtime drama “Homeland” follows a CIA agent hot on the trail of a suspected al Qaeda-like mole.

The show recently picked up four Emmys, including best drama and and best writing. Its two top stars — Claire Danes and Damian Lewis — won Best Actress and Best Actor.

Well, now, the show is making waves for something else: Worst portrayal of Beirut, according to the Lebanese government.

Tourism Minister, Fadi Abboud, says the government may sue the program for depicting Beirut’s Hamra neighborhood as a hotbed of violence.

He said the program “does not portray the real image of Beirut,” with its scenes of roaming militiamen and street fights.
