NBA schedule, Hurricane Sandy avoiding each other so far

With only one NFL game on Thursday, a quick end to the baseball season and an NHL lockout, the NBA seemingly had the spotlight to itself this week to open its new campaign.

That was until a storm called Sandy decided to hog all the media attention.

Still, the NBA said it would not let the tropical-super-franken-hurricane storm better known as Sandy ruin the fun.

NBA representative Tim Frank took to Twitter today to announce the league’s schedule is thus far unscathed.

“We are assessing the situation with regards to the rest of the week,” he said.

The NBA has three games on the schedule tonight, with the defending champion Miami Heat facing the Boston Celtics at 8 p.m. in Florida the biggest draw.

Also, the Cleveland Cavaliers host Washington and the LA Lakers entertain the Dallas Mavericks.

Probably more of a concern is Wednesday games in Toronto, Philadelphia, Detroit and Thursday’s tilt between the New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets on Thursday.

Still, there was little detrimental effect from Sandy on sports, with Washington rescheduling its flight to Cleveland and the Knicks cancelling a practice, The Associated Press reported.

MLB and the NHL closed their New York offices on Monday, but that did little to affect bargaining with the players association or post-World Series duties.

Cleveland’s NBA game isn’t completely unscathed, however.

As of 8:30 a.m. today, more than 250,000 Ohio homes were still without power.

According to the AP, the NBA and city of Cleveland are in contact and the league has a contingency plan if needed.
