James Bond: ‘Skyfall’ a box office hit around the world

The US opening of “Skyfall” looks promising after the latest James Bond film debuted at No.1 in 25 foreign countries over the weekend, the Los Angeles Times reported, citing figures from Sony Pictures.
The 23rd Bond film, staring Daniel Craig, Judi Dench and Javier Bardem, took $77.7 million at box offices around the world and was the most-watched film in every country where it opened, Sky News reported.
Nowhere was the film more popular than in Bond’s home turf of the United Kingdom, where it raked in $32.4 million, making it the biggest UK opening this year, the LA Times said.
According to the BBC, it was the most successful James Bond film opening weekend in history.
"We are absolutely overwhelmed with the reaction to Skyfall this weekend," producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli said in a statement cited by Reuters.
"It is particularly thrilling as the UK is home to James Bond and it being the 50th anniversary year."
Directed by Sam Mendes, “Skyfall” will open in the United States on November 9.
