Chinese Novelist Mo Yan Wins Nobel Prize for Literature

The Nobel Prize for Literature was awarded to 57-year-old Chinese novelist Mo Yan. The Swedish Academy praised Mo's "hallucinatory realism," saying it "merges folk tales, history and the contemporary." Mo's books include "Red Sorghum", which was adapted for the silver screen in 1987, "Big Breasts & Wide Hips", "Life and Death Are Wearing Me Out" and "Frog". The World's Beijing correspondent Mary Kay Magistad says officials in China celebrated the news, though reactions overall were mixed.
