10 Islamic militants arrested in Indonesia bomb plot

Indonesia police have arrested 10 Islamic militants accused of planning suicide attacks against the government in Jakarta.

Eight suspects were arrested Saturday in Central Java's Solo town and a ninth in West Kalimantan on the island of Borneo, national police spokesman Brig. Gen. Boy Rafli Amar told The Associated Press.

A 10th suspect, Joko Parkit, was arrested Sunday in Solo.

The anti-terrorist squad also seized a stash of improvised bombs and books promoting holy war, Al Jazeera reported.

Authorities say the group had planned to bomb the country's Parliament building, shoot police officers and attack members of the anti-terrorism squad.

Once targeting Western tourists and embassies, Islamic militants in Jakarta have shifted their focus to lower-profile attacks on their own government, the Wall Street Journal reported.

They believe the country's politicians are preventing the introduction of Islamic Sharia law in the world's most-populated Muslim majority nation.
