As it turns out, Myanmar's former generals reportedly watched "The West Wing" television series for tips on how to build a democracy.

And this comes from a trusted source.

US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton drew laughter on Wednesday when she said during her historic trip to Myanmar last year, the country's lower house speaker requested: "Help us learn how to be a democratic congress, a Parliament. He went on to tell me that they were trying to teach themselves by watching old segments of `The West Wing.'"

Clinton made the comments at a ceremony for Aung San Suu Kyi, Myanmar's opposition leader, now an elected official, who was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal in Washington.

"I said, `I think we can do better than that Mr. Speaker,'" Clinton responded, according to the Associated Press.
