Lucimarian Roberts, mother of Robin Roberts, dead at 88
Robin Roberts, cohost of Good Morning America, announced she is seeking treatment for MDS.
The mother of "Good Morning America" co-host Robin Roberts died Thursday night, just hours after her daughter signed off the show to begin a medical leave for treatment of the bone marrow disorder MDS.
Roberts had to fight the remnants of then-Tropical Storm Isaac but was was able to be with her mother, 88-year-old Lucimarian Roberts, in Mississippi when she died, ABC News reported.

"Robin arrived home with her sister, Sally-Ann, forging through flooded and blocked roads to be with her beloved mother in time to see her," "GMA" Senior Executive Tom Cibrowski said in an email to employees.
The death was also announced on "Good Morning America" on Friday morning.

Lucimarian Roberts was the first African-American to head the Mississippi Board of Education and collaborated with her daughter on a book titled, "My Story, My Song – Mother-Daughter Reflections on Life and Faith," according to The Associated Press.
She made numerous appearances on "GMA" over the years.
The death came the same day Robin Roberts departed the morning news show to begin a medical leave for a bone marrow transplant.
She is receiving new bone marrow from her sister, Sally-Ann, according to US Weekly.
