Mitt Romney officially nominated as GOP presidential candidate at Florida convention

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney has been officially nominated as the GOP's candidate for president of the United States, The New York Times reported.
New England Cable News reported that John Sununu, the former governor of New Hampshire, officially announced Romney's nomination today in Tampa, Florida, where the Republican National Convention is being held.
"Tonight we're all gathered here to put into motion the final phase of our campaign to help America know them better, and to appreciate why our nation needs them as our president and our first lady," NECN quoted Sununu as saying.
The Washington Post reported that Romney's nomination "became official at 5:40 p.m., with 50 votes from New Jersey," after which Romney cleared the 1,144-delegate threshold for the nomination.
Fox News wrote that the official moment "concluded what for Romney has been a protracted and hard-fought battle for the nomination … after warding off a rotating field of feisty primary challengers."
Romney's running mate, Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan, was nominated as the GOP's candidate for vice president shortly after, news outlets reported via Twitter.
