Olympic beach volleyball: US women’s duo Misty May-Treanor, Kerri Walsh Jennings win gold

Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh Jennings clinched their third consecutive Olympic beach volleyball gold medal today after trouncing fellow Americans Jennifer Kessy and April Ross 21-16 21-16 in just 37 minutes.

May-Treanor and Walsh Jennings, who have been beach volleyball partners for 11 years, collapsed on the sand and embraced after the final match point, USA Today reported.

The pair have never lost a match at the Olympics.

"It's insane. It doesn't feel like it's real," Walsh Jennings was quoted by the Associated Press as saying after receiving her gold medal.

"I told Misty when we were getting our medals, 'If I wake up tomorrow and we have to replay this match, I'm going to be furious.' Because it feels like I'm in a dream. It truly feels surreal and it didn't feel like that the first two times for whatever reason. But this, it's almost too good to be true."

May-Treanor, 35, has said she will retire after the Olympics, the BBC reported.

Thirty-three-year-old Walsh Jennings plans to continue playing.

"We set the bar very high," May-Treanor said after the match.

"We extended ourselves over that bar even higher."

Earlier today, Brazilian duo Larissa Franca and Juliana Silva defeated Chen Xue and Xi Shang of China for the bronze.
