China wins 2nd diving gold at London Olympics

China won its second diving gold medal Monday at the London Olympics, this time in the men's 10-meter synchronized platform.
Cao Yuan, 17, and Zhang Yanguan, 18, earned 486.78 points in the six-dive final, according to the Associated Press. Mexico's German Sanchez and Ivan Garcia had the highest degree of difficulty in the competition and ended up taking home silver with a score of 468.90, while US team Nick McCrory and David Boudia won the bronze with 463,47 points.

This marked the second diving medal for the US, with Abby Johnston and Kelci Bryant earning silver in the 3-meter synchronized springboard on Sunday and ending a 12-year medal drought.
The youngest competitors in the competition, Cao and Zhang's final and winning dive included 2 1/2 somersaults and 2 1/2 twists, reported Bloomberg. They ousted British divers Tom Daley and Peter Waterfield from the competition after three dives, when China took first place with a tucked reverse 3 1/2 somersault dive in the fourth round.
The pair has extended China's stay in the top spot on the London Olympic medal table, according to Bloomberg. The country now has 13 medals, seven of which are gold. UK Prime Minister David Cameron attended the diving event and watched his country finish fourth. The host nation is still waiting to win its first gold.
