Barrels of fetusus found in Russia

Four barrels containing 248 fetuses were discovered on Sunday in Russia’s Ural Mountains, Reuters reported

A local man who went fishing was the unlucky first to discover the disturbing cache.

"A friend called at night and said he went fishing and wanted to get some wood for his fire. He ran into some water canisters and wanted to take them home, but when he came closer he saw little baby bodies," Sergei Tveritinov told state television,” Reuters reported.

Police immediately launched an investigation, and the remains appear to have come from nearby hospitals in Yekaterinburg, the capital of Sverdlovsk region, according to the Chicago Tribune

"It seems the company responsible for disposal of the bio-medical waste did not carry out its duties," the deputy head of the regional government, Vladimir Vlasov, said, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The AP has said the fetuses, "preserved in formaldehyde, were kept in barrels with tags containing surnames and numbers."

That, perhaps, is the most unsettling and gag-inducing detail about this story. Photographs from the crime scene show fetuses numbered and tagged with family names.
