Tom Cruise turns 50 amid divorce turmoil with Katie Holmes

It couldn't be a more dramatic birthday for Tom Cruise, who turned 50 on Tuesday just days after his wife Katie Holmes filed for divorce.
Cruise had expected Holmes to join him for a celebration in Iceland, where he has been shooting the sci-fi flick "Oblivion," People.com reported.

"Iceland is beautiful," Cruise told the magazine several weeks ago. "We like hiking, and so we'll have some nice hikes and maybe go camping."
But those plans changed last week when Holmes, 33, surprised her husband of more than five years by filing for divorce and moving out of their New York apartment with 6-year-old daughter, Suri, according to CBS News.

Holmes is reportedly seeking sole custody of their daughter amid rumors she feared Cruise's Scientology plans for Suri.
On Monday, a smiling Holmes stepped out — wiithout her wedding ring — to tape a guest appearance on "Project Runway: All Stars" in New York, the New York Daily News reported.
According to TMZ, Holmes has fired her husband's security team, which had guarded her as recently as last week, and returned to her premarriage publicist.
Cruise is said to be planning to file for divorce in California, where Scientology is more accepted and where experts say he’d have a better chance of at least partial custody of Suri, according to the Daily News.
