Obama worth 10 camels to al-Shabab

The United States placed a $33 million bounty on the top leaders of al-Shabab, the Al Qaeda affiliate in Somalia, last week and the Islamist militant group responded with a bounty of its own on Friday.

Al-Shabab said it would award 10 camels for the location of President Obama's "hideout" and 20 chickens for Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, according to ABC News.

Fuad Mohamed Khalaf, a senior commander, said, "Whoever reveals the hideout of the idiot Obama will be rewarded with 10 camels, and whoever reveals the hideout of the old woman Hillary Clinton will be rewarded 10 chickens and 10 roosters," according to Reuters, which cited the SITE Intelligence Group.

According to a study done by Galkayo University, the average cost of a camel in Somalia is $700, said CNN.

Johnnie Carson, the assistant secretary of state for African affairs, who was in Mogadishu over the weekend, responded to a question about al-Shabab's offer, saying, "The question is so absurd it does not deserve a response," according to BBC.

Last Thursday, the US State Department offered a reward of $5 million for the location of Khalaf and three other associates, as well as $7 million for information on the group's founder Ahmed Abdi aw-Mohamed. An additional $3 million was offered for two other officials, said Reuters.

Al-Shabab, which entered the US government's list of terrorist organizations in 2008, officially joined Al Qaeda's ranks in February.
