Mr. Rogers remix released by PBS goes viral (VIDEO)

LOS ANGELES — Mr. Rogers is back, repackaged for the Internet generation. 

PBS Digital Studios released a video Thursday that remixes old clips of Mr. Rogers into an auto-tuned song called "Garden in Your Mind," which immediately went viral, the Los Angeles Times reported. As of Friday, the video had nearly 800,000 views on YouTube. 

Mr. Rogers was relaunched with the help of auto-tune artist John D. Boswell (also known as melodysheep), who was commissioned by PBS to remix clips from "Mr. Rogers Neighborhood," according to the Hollywood Reporter. Boswell also created Symphony of Science remix series, which featured clips from PBS documentary series "Cosmos."

"When we discovered video mash-up artist John D. Boswell, aka melodysheep, on YouTube, we immediately wanted to work together," PBS Digital explained on their YouTube channel. "Turns out that he is a huge Mr. Rogers Neighborhood fan, and was thrilled at the chance to pay tribute to one of our heroes. Both PBS and the Fred Rogers Company hope you like John’s celebration of Fred Rogers’ message." 

Fred Rogers, who died in 2003 at age 74, was on air for over 30 years, captivating children with his imaginative on-air personality. 

“I think that the thing we like about the piece most of all is how it shows that Fred was really ahead of his time,” Kevin Morrison, COO of the Fred Rogers Company, told the Reporter. “The message that it’s good to be curious, to use your imagination, and that ideas are the ‘garden produce’ of a fertile mind was something he stressed throughout his career.”
